Winter 2022

Winter greetings and welcome to the June newsletter of the Fire Station Theatre, home of the Taieri Dramatic Society!

Changing of the guard...

Winter may be in the air but we are overjoyed to be emerging from our prolonged pandemic induced hibernation as we enter a new era for our much-loved theatre. We give thanks to our past president Ian Chalmers for his service to our society, and congratulations to Tabitha Littlejohn our incoming president as she saddles up and takes the reins. Tabitha is a stalwart of our society and a familiar face on the Dunedin theatre scene, and under her leadership, we are looking forward to dusting off the cobwebs and turning our community theatre into the thriving hub that we all need in these trying times.

What’s on the cards...

Aside from our programme of scheduled performances, throughout July and August we will be hosting a series of directing workshops led by Perry Spicer. These are designed to give directing experience and identify and hone associated skills. This will culminate in an evening of short performances showcasing the results of our efforts. This is part of our ongoing effort to develop a skill set in our community that will ensure the survival of our theatre for years to come. Interested? It’s not too late... enquiries and applications via email/website are due in by midnight 9th June.

Up next...

The Taieri Dramatic Society’s very own Geoff Smith will be once again bringing his works to our stage. Debuting as a playreading, we will be presenting a selection of monologues and short scripts taking a wry look at life through the eyes of a host of relatable characters.

Dates: 6th and 7th August. Tickets $10

Calling all interested parties...

This spring, the Fire Station Theatre will be producing the hilarious murder mystery spoof, Murdered to Death, by Peter Gordon. Auditions to be held early July, with shows scheduled for mid-September. We’re looking for expressions of interest, on stage, backstage or wherever you feel like offering support from! So if you have time on your hands and a willingness to muck in, email us...

Come in from the cold...

Would you like to see what we’re all about? Join in with the fun? Or just visit our theatre and put some names to faces? We will be hosting an open day from midday until 3pm on 9th July. Hot drinks and snacks provided, perhaps a hearty soup to ward off the cold? Why not drop in and say hello...?

A call to arms...

In anticipation of the Taieri Dramatic Society’s upcoming 75th anniversary, we are looking to assemble an archiving group. We have a rich history of productions and community involvement and would like to ensure this legacy is preserved for future generations. If you are keen to get involved please get in touch.

To all you snappy dressers...

Our costume hire department is as busy as ever, but given these chilly nights, we are now open by appointment rather than fixed evening hours. So if you’re after something special call Judy (03 489 1539) or email us to arrange a time that suits you.

Stay warm, stay safe and we look forward to seeing you in the near future at one of our social gatherings...

Wishing you well,

The Taieri Dramatic Society Committee
